ACQUISITION of BOMBARDIER
On January 29, 2021, Alstom SA completed their acquisition of Bombardier Transportation Services. In addition to taking possession of Bombardier's assets, Alstom also takes on Bombardier's obligations and responsibilities. This includes honoring contracts and collective bargaining agreements to which the IBEW is a party.
While many documents will continue to reflect the Bombardier Transportation Services name and/or logo for some time, these documents are equally applicable under Alstom.
When disputes involving discipline or rules cannot be resolved on-property between System Council No. 9, IBEW and Alstom, the System Council has the option to pursue the matter through arbitration. The process is overseen by the National Mediation Board, an entity of the federal government which also funds arbitration.
Our cases with Bombardier are handled by the National Railroad Adjustment Board's Second Division. We currently have one discipline case pending, listed with but not yet scheduled by the Board.
On January 8, 2021, a ratification vote was held regarding the December 3, 2020, tentative agreement reached between System Council No. 9, IBEW and Bombardier Transportation Services. The ballots received were overwhelmingly in favor of accepting the tentative agreement, resulting in the "2020 Bombardier-IBEW Agreement" above. This contract expires December 31, 2023.
